Barcelona players hand Lamine Yamal major leadership role

Lamine Yamal has been voted into Barcelona’s captaincy group for the 2026/27 season, marking another significant step in the teenager’s rapid rise at the club. According to Barca Blaugranes, Barcelona’s players held their final vote on Friday after Hansi Flick initially named Raphinha, Pedri and Eric Garcia as his captains. Raphinha and Pedri retain their positions, while Frenkie de Jong, Garcia and Yamal complete the five-man leadership group.

Yamal’s selection is notable given that he is only 19, but his growing influence within the squad has made him one of Barcelona’s most important players. He has already won La Liga and the Copa del Rey with Barcelona, alongside major international honours with Spain.
