“Black market” screening draws massive crowds to TBS in Guinness World Record attempt

Hundreds of movie lovers have gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos for the premiere of Nollywood crime thriller Black Market, which is attempting a Guinness World Record for the largest film-screening audience at one location.

According to Channels Television, organisers are targeting 50,000 attendees for the simultaneous screening, with long queues stretching towards the TBS roundabout as crowds arrived.

The gates opened at 2pm, followed by a red-carpet session, while the screening was scheduled for 7pm to 8:30pm. Music, food and games were also organised ahead of the film.

Black Market, directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Nora Awolowo, stars Omowunmi Dada, Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman and Uzor Arukwe, among others.

The film follows five market women involved in cross-border smuggling during fuel scarcity and economic pressure.

Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat also attended the event. The record attempt remains subject to Guinness World Records’ verification process.
