Bruno Fernandes fires back at Man Utd legends after Como humiliation

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has urged the club to stop dwelling on past achievements and focus on rebuilding after their humiliating 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. In an interview with The Independent, the Portuguese midfielder doubled down on his criticism of Michael Carrick’s tactics, insisting United must acknowledge their current struggles rather than rely on their illustrious history.

“Everyone at the club has to understand that it’s not the same anymore, we’re not in the past anymore and we have to look to the future,” Fernandes said. “We have to create something different in the present. In this club we focus too much on what has been done in the past, but we are no longer those [players]. The club and the players need to understand that.”

Fernandes faced criticism from pundits, including Jamie Carragher, who described his earlier comments as “disgraceful”. Carrick disagreed with the captain’s assessment, arguing that United had demonstrated their potential after his appointment in January. United have now gone seven games without a win across all competitions, increasing pressure on Carrick as the club struggles domestically and in Europe.
