Javier Tebas hits back at Spanish Sports Council over Real Madrid TV controversy

La Liga president Javier Tebas has hit back at Spain’s Higher Sports Council (CSD) after the government body referred him to the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD) over controversial remarks comparing Real Madrid TV’s methods with Nazi propaganda.

According to Madrid Universal, Tebas accused the CSD of applying inconsistent standards, questioning why officials had not similarly challenged Real Madrid’s accusations concerning refereeing and the integrity of Spanish football.

“One more. Another request from the CSD to the TAD and, once again, headlines about my possible disqualification. The reasons change, but the persistence remains the same. We expected it: any excuse would have been enough,” Tebas wrote on social media.

He defended his original comments, insisting that he had distinguished propaganda techniques from Nazi ideology. “My post explicitly distinguished between propaganda techniques and ideology. That distinction was in the text from the outset,” he said.

Tebas argued that defending La Liga sometimes required confronting those who undermine its credibility. “Defending the competition also means responding to those who constantly discredit it. It is part of my responsibility, and I will continue to fulfil it,” he added. The dispute further intensifies tensions between La Liga and Real Madrid.
