Bus driver returns N400,000 forgotten by passenger, wins public praise
A commercial bus driver in Abia State, Onyekachi Ikpendu, has earned widespread commendation after returning more than N400,000 forgotten by a passenger in his vehicle — a rare act of honesty that has drawn praise from state officials and members of the public.
According to Tribune, the passenger, petty trader Nkechi John, had left her bag containing the cash and personal items in the bus after alighting at Ubani Market en route from Uzuakoli to Umuahia. She traced the vehicle to Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, where Ikpendu had secured the bag intact.
“I am grateful and content with what I have, therefore, no amount of money I see now will move me to take what does not belong to me,” Ikpendu said.
Abia’s Commissioner for Transport Chimezie Ukaegbu described the act as evidence of a positive mindset shift among Abia citizens.
