Cambridge to launch independent review into decisions made before Arday’s death

Cambridge University has launched an independent review into its decision-making before professor Jason Arday’s death, according to a report by the Daily Mirror. Arday, 41, was found dead at his London home on August 14, a week after resigning amid plagiarism allegations he denied. Vice-Chancellor Prof Deborah Prentice said the university had worked hard to support Arday but was still questioning whether more should have been done.

Led by Nazir Afzal, chancellor of the University of Manchester, the first-stage review will examine protections available to Arday and report within three months. Arday made history in 2023 as Cambridge’s youngest ever Black professor before facing intense public scrutiny.
