Niger: We’ve not heard from kidnappers two weeks after mass abduction – Families of 600 abducted residents cry out

Two weeks after gunmen abducted about 600 people in Niger State, families say they remain without information on the victims or visible progress towards their rescue.

Tribune reported that residents of Dekera and neighbouring communities said at least 40 people were killed during the August 22 attack, with homes and other facilities destroyed.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered security agencies to rescue the hostages, but police said there was no update. Families described worsening hardship, with many displaced and lacking food. Analysts suspect a Boko Haram breakaway faction may have carried out the attack, although no group has claimed responsibility.
