Gatwick Airport grinds to halt after aircraft gets stuck on runway

London Gatwick Airport ground to a halt after a Boeing 787 became stuck on the runway, forcing officials to shut the airfield and disrupt flights, according to GB News. The runway closed shortly before 2pm after the aircraft, scheduled to depart for New York just after 1pm, failed to leave the airfield. Emergency vehicles surrounded the plane as ground teams worked to clear it and restore operations.

A Gatwick spokesperson confirmed the technical issue and said safety remained the priority. Passengers were advised to continue traveling as planned. Several flights were diverted, including one passenger rerouted from the Isle of Man to Luton. The incident follows a water outage at Gatwick last month.
