Cement price disparity: FCCPC probes Nigeria as Kenya, Togo sell for less

According to a report by Punch, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has flagged possible price manipulation in Nigeria’s cement market after a three-month cross-border investigation.

The commission found a 50kg bag, which cost N9,300 to N9,700 in January, rose to between N13,000 and N15,000 by July, despite Nigeria’s cement production capacity far exceeding domestic consumption. Comparatively, cement sold for N7,344 in Kenya, N6,528 in Tanzania and N9,180 in Togo, which lacks limestone deposits.

FCCPC has summoned industry players to produce pricing and production records as investigations continue.
