Chelsea, Everton and Monaco left unhappy after Camara-Balogun transfer chaos
Chelsea were left furious after Monaco pulled the plug on Lamine Camara’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge, with Fabrizio Romano revealing that the extraordinary deadline-day saga ended with all three clubs unhappy. Chelsea had reached a written agreement with Monaco for the Senegal midfielder, reportedly worth around €55 million, but the French club abandoned the deal after focusing on Folarin Balogun’s proposed £40 million transfer to Everton.
Monaco were counting on Balogun’s sale to address their financial requirements, prompting them to prioritise the striker’s departure over Camara’s transfer. However, Balogun ultimately decided against joining Everton after complications surrounding his medical and the terms of the move. By then, Monaco could no longer revive Camara’s transfer because the necessary deal sheet had not been submitted before the deadline.
According to Fabrizio Romano’s report, Chelsea were particularly unhappy with Monaco’s handling of the situation, with the relationship between the clubs now described as completely broken. The extraordinary chain of events meant Monaco ended the window without selling either player, while Chelsea missed out on their intended midfield reinforcement and Everton were left without the striker they had targeted.
