Chelsea Player Ratings vs Hull: Two 4/10s expose Alonso’s defensive problems

Share:

Chelsea were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against Hull City at Stamford Bridge, with their attacking players once again rescuing a defence that struggled badly.

Morgan Rogers opened the scoring early, but Mohamed Belloumi struck twice to turn the game around before Cole Palmer created the opening for Joao Pedro to restore parity. Here are the Chelsea player ratings from the contest.

Chelsea Player Ratings vs Hull City

Emi Martinez – 7/10

Could not do much about either Hull goal. Made important saves from Oliver McBurnie and Mohamed-Ali Cho, although he could have been more authoritative at set-pieces.

Malo Gusto – 4/10

Had a difficult afternoon at right-back, struggling both in possession and defensively. His display may strengthen Alonso’s argument for using him in midfield.

Wesley Fofana – 5/10

Never looked completely comfortable alongside Colwill. His lack of consistency continues to raise questions, particularly with Chelsea missing Maxence Lacroix.

Levi Colwill – 5/10

Had a challenging afternoon as Chelsea’s defence repeatedly lost its shape. Offered limited influence in possession and could not fully organise those around him.

Jorrel Hato – 4/10

Endured a nightmare first half, contributing to both Hull goals. His costly mistake for Belloumi’s opener was followed by an unfortunate deflection for the second.

Reece James – 6/10

Showed some quality from set-pieces and was denied a superb free-kick by Tzolakis. Solid enough overall but looked more natural in midfield than at right-back.

Romeo Lavia – 5/10

Struggled to provide the protection Chelsea’s vulnerable backline needed. His afternoon ended after 70 minutes as Alonso introduced fresh legs.

Cole Palmer – 8/10

Chelsea’s standout creator once again. Produced a brilliant assist for Joao Pedro and constantly looked capable of unlocking Hull’s defence through individual quality.

Pedro Neto – 5/10

Found it difficult to influence the game, often running into crowded areas. Hull’s defensive shape limited his opportunities to attack space behind their backline.

Joao Pedro – 8/10

Combined intelligently with Palmer and Rogers before producing a sharp finish to level the contest. His movement and finishing provided Chelsea with a major attacking threat.

Morgan Rogers – 8/10

Continued his excellent start with a composed finish for Chelsea’s opener. Threatened throughout and nearly won the game late on with another dangerous effort.

Substitutes

Valentin Barcola was introduced for Lavia in the 70th minute as Chelsea searched for greater attacking energy, while Alonso also made changes to strengthen the side after Hato’s poor first half.
