Family sources confirmed his death on Saturday, three days before his 91st birthday, according to Vanguard. Tukur began his career at the Nigerian Ports Authority before winning Gongola State’s 1983 governorship election, cut short by a military coup.

He later founded BHI Holdings, served as Minister of Industries under General Sani Abacha, and led the African Business Roundtable. He became PDP national chairman in 2012 but resigned in 2014 amid internal party disputes. Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri described his death as a national loss and declared three days of mourning. He is survived by his wives, children, and grandchildren.
