Chelsea substitutes spark remarkable 6-3 Carabao Cup comeback against Leeds
Chelsea produced a remarkable second-half comeback to beat Leeds United 6-3 and reach the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after falling two goals behind at Stamford Bridge. According to The Irish News, Chelsea made nine changes from their defeat by Arsenal and struggled to contain Leeds, who moved 2-0 ahead through Tarik Muharemovic and Brenden Aaronson.
Xabi Alonso responded by introducing Cole Palmer and three other substitutes at half-time, with the changes transforming the contest. Palmer scored twice in two minutes, including a penalty, before Pedro Neto completed the turnaround six minutes later.
Danny Welbeck then extended Chelsea’s lead, with Morgan Rogers providing three assists after coming off the bench. Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one back for Leeds, but Valentin Barco and Welbeck struck again to complete a dramatic victory. Chelsea’s defensive weaknesses, however, remained evident throughout the nine-goal thriller.
