Chris Brown avoids jail, gets eight-month suspended sentence over London nightclub assault
American R&B singer Chris Brown has avoided immediate imprisonment after a London court handed him an eight-month suspended sentence for attacking a music producer at a nightclub in 2023.
According to CNN, the 37-year-old singer was sentenced on Monday, October 26, 2026, at Southwark Crown Court after pleading guilty to affray.
Brown admitted attacking music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle at Tape nightclub in London’s Mayfair district in February 2023.
The court heard that Brown struck Diaw repeatedly, including twice on the head, leaving him with injuries requiring hospital treatment.
Judge Tony Baumgartner described the attack as “plainly dangerous” and warned that “commercial success does not attract preferential treatment”.
Brown’s eight-month prison sentence was suspended for 12 months, allowing him to avoid immediate imprisonment.
His vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who also pleaded guilty, received a four-month suspended sentence.
Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 in costs.
Brown had previously been arrested in Manchester in May 2025 over the incident.
