Civil servants petition Tinubu over hardship, demand ₦500 pump price

Nigerian civil servants have asked President Bola Tinubu to reduce the pump price of petrol to N500 per litre and approve an immediate wage award to cushion economic hardship.

According to Vanguard, the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council also demanded an upward review of salaries and allowances across the public service.

The council urged the government to establish a committee to negotiate a new national minimum wage ahead of January 2027, proposing N500,000 monthly for workers on Grade Level 01, Step 1.

It gave the government until September 30 to address its demands, warning of growing tension among workers.

The council said rising fuel, food, transportation, housing and healthcare costs had significantly eroded workers’ purchasing power.
