Clancy juror admitted doubt but refused insanity verdict, foreperson says
A juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial acknowledged having reasonable doubt but refused to support a not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity verdict, according to the jury foreperson cited by Fox News.
The revelation came after the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision, prompting a mistrial in the Massachusetts case. Clancy, who admitted killing her three children in January 2023, had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with her defense arguing that she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis.
The jury reportedly split 11-1 in favor of an insanity verdict, with one juror holding out despite acknowledging doubts. The judge ultimately declared a mistrial after several days of deliberations.
Prosecutors could seek a retrial.
