Como 4-1 Manchester United: Player Ratings as Bruno Fernandes and co. crumble in Champions League defeat
Manchester United endured another miserable European night on Wednesday, suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League.
Michael Carrick’s side struggled defensively and were outplayed in midfield as Nico Paz scored twice and supplied an assist. Anastasios Douvikas and Jacob Ramon also found the net for Cesc Fabregas’ impressive hosts, while Joshua Zirkzee grabbed a late consolation.
Andrey Santos endured a particularly difficult evening, while captain Bruno Fernandes struggled to influence proceedings before being substituted. Here are the player ratings.
Senne Lammens – 6/10
The Belgian goalkeeper had little chance of preventing Como’s four goals. He was fortunate to escape a penalty decision after catching Douvikas inside the box.
Diogo Dalot – 5/10
Missed an early opportunity to make an impact and struggled to contain Como’s attacking threat. Switching to left-back after the break brought little improvement.
Matthijs De Ligt – 5/10
Made his first appearance in 325 days amid United’s defensive injury problems. Understandably short of sharpness, he occasionally allowed Douvikas too much space.
Harry Maguire – 4/10
Failed to close down Paz quickly enough for Como’s opener. He produced a timely tackle to deny Martin Baturina but struggled to organise United’s vulnerable defence.
Noussair Mazraoui – 5/10
Reacted too slowly when Como attacked, allowing the hosts to exploit spaces during their second goal. He found it difficult to cope with their movement.
Andrey Santos – 3/10
Lost track of Paz before the opening goal and struggled to contain the Argentine throughout the first half. Booked after being outmanoeuvred, he was substituted at half-time.
Youri Tielemans – 4/10
Failed to match Como’s intensity and struggled to dictate the midfield battle. His passing and inability to control the tempo contributed to United’s disappointing display.
Mason Mount – 5/10
Brought energy after entering the game, but United continued to lose control in midfield. Como regularly found space despite the visitors’ numerical presence in the area.
Bryan Mbeumo – 5/10
Looked like United’s most threatening attacking outlet but received insufficient support. He struggled to turn his promising moments into meaningful opportunities.
Bruno Fernandes – 4/10
Moved into a central attacking position but failed to create enough chances. He visibly demanded more pressing from teammates before being substituted, a decision that frustrated him.
Matheus Cunha – 4/10
Struggled to influence the contest as Como dominated possession. Carrick visibly expressed his frustration with the Brazilian, who was withdrawn at half-time.
Substitutes
Carlos Baleba – 4/10
Made a costly error when his attempted pass was intercepted, allowing Paz to race through and score Como’s third goal.
Amad – 6/10
Produced some encouraging touches after coming on at half-time, but United’s deficit had already become difficult to overcome.
Joshua Zirkzee – 7/10
Scored United’s consolation goal late in the contest. His contribution offered a rare positive moment, although it came too late to threaten Como’s victory.
Harry Amass – 6/10
Entered the closing stages and gained valuable first-team experience. He replaced De Ligt as United managed the final minutes of the defeat.
Shea Lacey – N/A
Came on in the closing minutes, leaving insufficient time to make a meaningful assessment of his performance.
