Man United set unwanted European record after conceding early goal against Como
Manchester United have set an unwanted European record after conceding early goals in consecutive Champions League defeats against Atletico Madrid and Como. According to The Sporting News, United became the first team in UEFA history to concede within the opening two minutes of back-to-back major European matches.
Pablo Barrios scored inside the first minute of Atletico Madrid’s 2-0 victory over the English side on October 13 before Nico Paz struck in the second minute of Wednesday’s encounter against Como. Paz scored twice as Como established a commanding 3-0 lead before the hour mark, deepening United’s difficulties in the competition.
The latest defeat has increased pressure on manager Michael Carrick, whose team have struggled to find consistency during the 2026/27 campaign. United began their Champions League journey with a victory over Sabah but have since suffered consecutive setbacks against Atletico and Como.
The disappointing results have intensified questions about Carrick’s future, with United also struggling domestically and exiting the EFL Cup in the early stages of the season.
