Dean Ashton questions Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or victory ahead of Lamine Yamal
Former Premier League striker Dean Ashton has claimed that Harry Kane is not “what a Ballon d’Or winner should be” after the 33-year-old England captain beat out Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé to claim the coveted award, according to Football365.
Speaking on talkSPORT prior to the announcement, Ashton argued that the recipient should be someone who delivers jaw-dropping moments.
“Harry Kane is a fantastic player and does some wonderful things, but I look at him and think, there’s nothing he does that I think wow, I couldn’t do that or other players couldn’t,” Ashton noted.
“I watch Yamal and I’m honestly wowed by some of the things. Kane doesn’t do anything that has me aghast.”
Arsenal legend Martin Keown strongly disagreed, stating, “I 100 per cent think he should win it… I can’t see a more worthy winner of it this year.”
