iPhone Duo screen problems: Apple promises replacements days after launch
Apple says it will replace iPhone Duo handsets that have developed screen problems, just days after its first foldable phone went on sale.
According to the BBC, photos posted on social media show lines on the screens of the device, which starts at £1,999 ($2,668) in the UK. Apple said it is aware of “an issue impacting the inner display on a small number” of the phones and urged affected users to contact the company for a replacement.
Some owners also posted photos of cracks along the screen’s centre crease, while others reported a crunching noise when opening the phone. One user, Justin Lokos, thanked an Apple store in New York for helping him replace his faulty handset.
The extent of the issue remains unclear. Apple did not say how many devices were affected, while some images of faulty devices may have been created using artificial intelligence.
The Duo, unveiled by new chief executive John Ternus, is Apple’s most expensive iPhone ever, costing up to £3,199. Ternus said it would “redefine the experience of using a foldable phone”.
