Debt claims: Obi releases fresh document, counters Soludo
NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has released his official handover document from his Anambra State governorship, showing a net positive balance of over N86 billion as of March 17, 2024, in response to claims that his administration left behind loans and financial liabilities that the current state government is still servicing.
The document was made public on Wednesday by Interim National Coordinator of the Obedient Movement, Dr Yinusa Tanko, as reported by DAILY POST.
The release follows Anambra State officials citing eight outstanding external loans totalling approximately $92.35 million — roughly N127.37 billion as of June 30, 2026 — alongside unpaid gratuities and pension obligations allegedly inherited from previous administrations including Obi’s.
The Presidency had earlier challenged Obi to honour his pledge to quit his presidential campaign if evidence of unpaid liabilities from his tenure as governor was established.
