Despite father’s current 40-year rule, Museveni’s son declares 2031 presidential ambition

Uganda’s military chief, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni, has declared his intention to contest the country’s presidency in 2031.

Kainerugaba, 52, announced his ambition in posts on X, saying, “I will stand for the highest office in the land in 2031. And we will win by the grace of Almighty God.”

According to SaharaReporters, Kainerugaba has long been viewed as a potential successor to his 81-year-old father, who has ruled Uganda since 1986.

He also predicted a 90 per cent victory with Museveni’s support, amid concerns over Uganda’s political climate and allegations of rights abuses.
