A Department of State Services (DSS) investigating officer, Michael Jego, has told the Federal High Court in Abuja that the agency prepared no investigation report before demanding that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore retract a social media post about President Bola Tinubu, Sahara Reporters reports.

Jego testified on Monday as a witness for DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Ajayi during cross-examination in Sowore’s trial on allegations of criminal defamation and cyberbullying of the President. The DSS letter, issued in September 2025, demanded an immediate retraction and an apology published in at least two national newspapers and broadcast on two television stations.

Jego also admitted that the DSS did not invite or investigate anyone who commented on Sowore’s post, including Joe Igbokwe, an APC chieftain and Lagos State Government official. He said he could not recall whether Sowore was invited to explain the post before the letter was issued.

He said the DSS considered the post capable of provoking unrest, but could not point to any comment posing a serious security threat beyond insults directed at Sowore. Asked by defence counsel Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN) whether law and order had broken down since the post appeared, he said it had not.

Jego maintained that Tinubu’s statement was taken out of context but could not recall his exact words. A video of the President saying in Brazil that there was no corruption in Nigeria was played in open court.

The trial continues.
