Dublin teenager pleads guilty to possessing over 1,300 child sexual abuse images

A 17-year-old Dublin boy has pleaded guilty to possessing and producing child sexual abuse material after investigators discovered a substantial volume of content on his electronic devices.

The Irish Times reported that Garda officers seized a phone and iPad from the teenager’s home in January 2024, when he was 15.

Dublin Children’s Court heard that investigators found images and videos involving minors, including recordings of online interactions with girls believed to be aged between 13 and 16.

Defence counsel said about 1,300 images were duplicates and argued that the Children’s Court had adequate sentencing powers.

Judge Paul Kelly accepted jurisdiction, recorded the guilty plea and remanded the teenager on continuing bail pending psychiatric and probation reports before sentencing.
