EFCC busts illegal oil refinery run by Chinese in Ogun
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has uncovered an illegal oil refinery allegedly operated by Chinese nationals in the Ogere area of Ogun State, the commission said according to The Cable.
Operatives of its Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 raided the facility on Saturday, October 31, acting on intelligence and surveillance.
The site was deserted, but operatives found refining waste and underground tanks believed to have been used to heat and process sludge oil.
Two of the tanks contained substances suspected to be Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), or diesel.
Preliminary investigations showed the operators sourced sludge oil from Warri, Delta State, and Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and allegedly heated it to produce diesel for sale.
Guards said the Chinese operators never disclosed their identities or company name.
The raid followed the EFCC’s earlier clampdown on four illegal lithium processing plants in the area.
The commission has taken over the premises as investigations continue into operators’ identities, ownership and suspected economic sabotage.
