EFCC offers 5% cut to whistleblowers who help recover Nigerian assets hidden abroad

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is offering international whistleblowers between 2.5 and 5 per cent of any assets recovered based on their information, as part of a global push to trace Nigerian funds allegedly hidden abroad by corrupt officials.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede made the offer while delivering a lecture at the 43rd International Symposium on Economic Crime in Cambridge, United Kingdom, as confirmed in a statement by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale, reported by PUNCH Online.

“If any one of you is privy to where Nigerian assets are stolen or taken to anywhere in the world, we have an incentive for you; between 2.5 per cent and 5 per cent, it’s going to go back to you upon recovery,” Olukoyede said, adding that successful tipsters could “leave this place multi-millionaire.”

The chairman also disclosed that the EFCC had recovered and secured forfeiture of assets worth over $500 million within his first three years in office, crediting investigative professionalism, judicial support and credible intelligence.
