Mattéo Guendouzi was at the centre of ugly scenes after Fenerbahçe defeated Lyon 2-1 to secure a 3-2 aggregate victory and return to the Champions League league phase. The former Arsenal and Marseille midfielder taunted Lyon supporters after the final whistle, reportedly shouting “Allez l’OM” and making a gesture associated with Marseille rapper Jul.

According to ESPN, the celebrations triggered confrontations involving players and staff on the pitch and in the tunnel. Guendouzi later defended his actions, claiming Lyon supporters had insulted his family throughout the match and insisting that banter should work both ways.
