Emi Martinez switches to No.1 as Chelsea confirm goalkeeper change

Emi Martinez has been handed Chelsea’s No1 shirt after wearing No26 for just one appearance since joining the club from Aston Villa. According to the Evening Standard, the Argentina international initially selected No26 partly because of its connection to Chelsea legend John Terry. However, the club have now confirmed Martinez will take the No1 shirt, strengthening his position as their first-choice goalkeeper.

Martinez joined Chelsea for £7.5 million after the club changed their plans following Robert Sanchez’s difficult start to the season. Sanchez has since joined Como on loan. Chelsea also confirmed Martinez has offered to sign No26 shirts purchased through official club channels.
