Ex-ambassador to Togo Debo Adesina’s wife appeals to Tinubu for support as husband lies in coma at Canadian hospital

Oluyemisi Debo-Adesina, wife of former Ambassador to Togo and ex-Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian, Debo Adesina, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu for financial help following her husband’s stroke, Peoples Gazette reports.

In a letter dated Sunday, she said Adesina suffered a stroke on July 9, just 15 days after arriving in Canada to visit his family, and was admitted to Trillium Hospital’s ICU before being transferred to Etobicoke General Hospital. She said he was gradually emerging from an induced coma but remained in serious condition.

Mrs Debo-Adesina disclosed that medical bills had exceeded CAD $205,000 as of August 24, with costs rising daily, and warned that the hospital had raised concerns about continuing his care without payment arrangements.

She appealed to Tinubu personally, citing their long relationship across Adesina’s careers as journalist, diplomat and public intellectual, describing the situation as “deeply painful” and asking for direct contact to discuss possible assistance. She said the family continues to trust God for his full recovery while appealing for compassion and support during what she called an “extraordinarily difficult period.”
