Ten travellers, including former NYSC member Olusoji Adedapo, were abducted at Ijebu Awa, on the Ogun-Oyo boundary, on Tuesday night. Kidnappers have demanded N25 million, raised from an initial N20 million, while the family says it has raised only N700,000. One passenger escaped and alerted relatives. Police say none of the victims was a serving corps member, and the Ogun State Police Command says investigations and efforts to secure their release are ongoing.

Families of 10 travellers abducted at Ijebu Awa, a boundary community between Ogun and Oyo states, have raised the alarm as kidnappers demand N25 million for their release, Vanguard reports.

Among the victims is 24-year-old Olusoji Adedapo, who reportedly completed his NYSC in Edo State last week and was travelling to Ibadan on Tuesday when the attack occurred. Police said none of those abducted was a serving corps member.

His cousin, Adeseye Timilehin, said a friend, Tunde, was the only passenger who escaped and alerted the family shortly after 7pm. He said the abductors first demanded N20 million before raising it to N25 million, with a 24-hour deadline.

“We told him that we were already trying to raise money, but that it had not amounted to something substantial,” Timilehin said, adding that the family has so far raised only N700,000.

The Ogun State Police Command said investigations were ongoing. Spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaeyi Ogunnaike said efforts were being made to establish the circumstances of the attack and secure the victims’ release.
