Ex-minister Saleh Mamman moves to overturn 75-year sentence in N33.8bn fraud case

Former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman has filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, Abuja, seeking to overturn his conviction and 75-year sentence over an alleged N33.8 billion fraud, according to The Sun Nigeria. His legal team, led by Femi Atteh, SAN, argues his right to fair hearing was violated after judgement was delivered in his absence.

The appeal, raising 18 grounds, claims the trial court wrongly linked him to funds from the Zungeru and Mambilla power projects, which were domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria. Separately, the Federal High Court struck out an EFCC motion seeking to forfeit Mamman’s properties after prosecutors withdrew it following his appeal.
