Explosions rock Riyadh as Houthis launch deadliest attacks on Saudi Arabia
Explosions rocked Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, on Thursday as Houthi militants launched fresh missile attacks, following deadly strikes on airports that killed three people and injured dozens.
According to The New York Times, Saudi authorities intercepted two ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh, with falling debris reportedly striking a children’s nursery and a medical clinic.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed the group targeted Riyadh International Airport, disrupting flight operations.
The latest attacks followed Wednesday’s strikes on airports in Riyadh and Abha, described as the deadliest since fighting between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed Houthis resumed.
Saudi Arabia has responded with airstrikes against Houthi military facilities in Yemen, including alleged missile storage sites and command centres.
The escalating conflict has also disrupted international flights and pushed global oil prices higher.
Meanwhile, the United Nations estimates that nearly 200,000 Yemenis have been displaced since September.
The renewed hostilities have raised concerns about regional security and the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
