Fadahunsi’s politics of point and kill

By Oluwaseyi Oyetunbi

t’s no longer a news that a sitting Senator, representing Osun East Senatorial District, Sen. Francis Fadahunsi openly ordered his loyalists to kill any accord party member in the state. In a video that was live stream, the Senator issued the threat unequivocally, and even encouraged people that were present to circulate the video.

I watched the video for more than 10mins before I shared it with GOVERN-MEND. The threat didn’t come off as an empty one, as a matter of fact he didn’t sound like he was making a big deal. One would think that a sitting senator who’s a retired senior custom officer would understand that nobody’s ambition is worth shedding blood. Unfortunately, the 75year old senator shamelessly wants power by all means. And this brings to mind: how much is the life of a regular Nigerian worth to these men in power?

The statement of Sen. Fadahunsi has the capacity to render the state ungovernable. A threat as direct and unambiguous as that leaves weakens the security of the state, and spreads fear and unrest that cannot should not have co-existed with an election. And I’m disappointed that both the state and federal governments are taking it for a joke.

The primitive politics of point and kill is a mockery to our 27 years of democracy.

It’s reported that over 10people have been killed on the ground of political violence in Osun state in the last 30days. 70 percent of these people are Sen. Fadahunsi’s constituents, the same man fanning the ember of discord in the state, I don’t know why he should be a free man after such nefarious statement was made. Fadahunsi has to be in detention for Osun state to hold a peaceful election. His arrest and lawful detention is the only way Osun can have a peaceful election, the people can trust the security in place during and after election, and violence can be de-market among those with plans or who may be used to wreck havoc.

Osun state’s election has drawn attention from far and wide. Farther than it should have gone . It’s obviously getting the same attention as the presidential elections, and if people get killed because police refused to incarcerate Sen. Fadahunsi, let it be that the government decisively failed to protect its citizens.
