Falconets lose 2-0 to Spain in U-20 World Cup opener
Nigeria’s Falconets began their 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Spain in their Group F opener on Monday.
As reported by Premium Times, Spain took the lead through Marisa García in the 13th minute at the Stadion Sosnowiec, before Alba Cerrato doubled the advantage in the 73rd minute, sealing the result.
Head coach Moses Aduku had earlier described the encounter as a “Cup final,” insisting his side was ready to compete despite Spain’s pedigree as 2022 champions.
The Falconets, two-time runners-up in the competition’s history, must now regroup ahead of their next Group F fixture against China on Wednesday, as they seek to keep their progression hopes alive.
