Fayemi: Atiku’s fuel subsidy proposal is political strategy
Former Ekiti State Governor and ex-Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi, has described Atiku Abubakar’s proposal to restore fuel subsidy as a political strategy rather than an economic policy.
Fayemi spoke during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Monday, comparing the proposal to the All Progressives Congress’ Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the 2023 election.
According to Vanguard, he said the proposal could appeal to Nigerians struggling with the effects of subsidy removal, particularly vulnerable citizens facing rising living costs.
Fayemi maintained his support for subsidy removal but criticised the manner of implementation, saying the previous administration had developed safety-net plans with state governors and the World Bank to cushion its impact.
