FBI arrests nine suspected fraudsters in Nigeria, confiscates 53 electronic devices
The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has arrested nine suspects in Nigeria and seized 53 electronic devices during an operation targeting international cybercrime networks.
According to The Cable, FBI Director Kash Patel disclosed the development in a statement posted on X on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Patel said the operation, codenamed “Operation Blackout,” also uncovered $11 million in potentially recoverable funds across several countries.
“Operation Blackout is taking the fight directly to the international cybercriminal networks stealing billions from Americans,” Patel stated.
“These scam centers exploit innocent victims, steal life savings, and operate across international borders believing they are beyond the reach of law enforcement. They’re wrong.
“Thanks to Nigerian law enforcement and our partners in London for their outstanding cooperation.”
Patel pledged continued prosecution of international fraudsters targeting Americans.
The development follows previous operations involving Nigerian suspects, including the extradition of two Nigerians by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in August over alleged online sexual exploitation and sextortion.
