Why Cole Palmer will be available to face Man Utd despite Spurs red card
Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer will avoid missing any Premier League action despite collecting the first red card of his senior career during Chelsea’s 2–0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report by FotMob.
Under English Football Association rules, red-card suspensions carry across all domestic competitions. As a result, Palmer will serve his one-match ban during Chelsea’s midweek Carabao Cup fourth-round tie against Liverpool at Anfield. This scheduling quirk ensures he remains fully eligible for Saturday’s crucial Premier League fixture against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.
The dismissal occurred in the 80th minute after Palmer picked up a second yellow card for stepping on Conor Gallagher’s ankle. Following the defeat, Palmer issued a public apology on social media, writing: “Not good enough by me. Live n learn. Apologies. On to the next.” Head coach Xabi Alonso emphasized the need for better emotional control and maturity in high-pressure situations as Chelsea seek to address their ongoing disciplinary issues.
