FCT workers begin indefinite strike over unresolved labour disputes
Workers across the Federal Capital Territory have begun an indefinite strike following unresolved labour disputes with the FCT Administration.
According to Vanguard, the Nigeria Labour Congress FCT Council ordered the action after a seven-day ultimatum to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike expired.
Council Chairman Knabayi Adalo said workers’ demands include abolishing the vacancy requirement for teachers’ promotions and withdrawing redeployment and demotion letters issued to some education directors.
“There was also the demand for the reconsideration of 2025 eligible teachers to sit for their promotion examination alongside the 2026 batch.
“The union also demanded the dissolution and reinstatement of the management teams at the FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB) and the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB),” he said.
Adalo directed schools, hospitals, offices and government establishments to remain closed until the demands are met.
“The council will no longer tolerate the continued dehumanisation of FCT teachers through obnoxious policies alien to the teaching profession,” Adalo said.
