Fermin Lopez hits back at Real Madrid over refereeing controversy ahead of El Clasico
Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has criticised Real Madrid’s complaints about refereeing ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico at the Spotify Camp Nou. According to Barca News Network, citing an interview with Teledeporte reported by Mundo Deportivo, Lopez expressed frustration with the controversy surrounding Madrid ahead of the eagerly anticipated clash.
“It’s getting a little tiresome, because we’re showing what we’re capable of on the pitch. It’s not fair to bring up that narrative when things are going well for us, but I don’t like getting involved in that controversy, and neither does anyone else in the squad.”
The Spain international insisted Barcelona were focused on their performances rather than off-field disputes, adding that neither team should be considered favourites. “There are no favourites; either team can win. We’re two great teams, and we have to focus on playing our game, controlling our emotions and managing the little details.”
Lopez also identified Kylian Mbappe and Thibaut Courtois as major threats, while backing Barcelona teammate Lamine Yamal to win the Ballon d’Or. “Lamine Yamal. Why? Because he’s the best.”
