Gary Lineker warns Fabregas he would be ‘mad’ to take Manchester United job
Gary Lineker has warned Cesc Fabregas against taking the Manchester United job, describing the Old Trafford position as a “graveyard” amid growing pressure on Michael Carrick. According to the Daily Mirror, Fabregas has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Carrick following Como’s 4-1 Champions League victory over United on Wednesday.
The former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder has impressed in his managerial role in Italy, but Lineker believes leaving Como for United would be a mistake. “He’s going to have a big decision at some point because if he continues to have even moderate success with Como a big club will come in for him,” he said on the Rest is Football podcast.
“It might be United. If he takes that job, he’d be mad! It’s a graveyard really.” Former England striker Alan Shearer also questioned the appeal of the role, pointing to United’s managerial turnover.
“I know it’s a huge football club, but it’s not an attractive job at the minute, because of how many [managers] have been in there and how many have been sacked.” Fabregas, meanwhile, admitted he regretted instructing Como to reduce their intensity after going 4-0 ahead, allowing United to score.
