Florida governor offers ‘asylum’ to holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy trial
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has accused the media of running a smear campaign against the lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, according to a report by The Hill.
The remarks followed an NBC10 Boston report revealing the juror had a history of alleged domestic violence and an active restraining order. DeSantis said the juror’s identity should be protected and offered him “asylum” in Florida if he faced harassment.
NBC10 reported the juror was charged in 2021 for allegedly assaulting his then-wife, a case later dismissed. His nephew also obtained a restraining order against him last year, which was active during jury selection.
The juror was the sole holdout after the panel split 11-1 on finding Clancy not guilty by reason of mental disease. Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial after seven days of deliberations.
