Trump’s $5K dividend won’t come from taxpayer money – Commerce secretary
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said the $5,000 dividends President Trump promised American adults would not come from taxpayer money, according to a report by The Hill.
Trump had announced the dividends at the GOP’s midterm convention, contingent on Republicans retaining control of Congress after November’s elections. The plan would disburse $1.2 trillion to roughly 270 million adults.
Lutnick said funds would come from sources including the unreleased Trump Platinum Card, which would charge immigration applicants a $15,000 processing fee and a $5 million contribution for guaranteed citizenship, alongside profits from the government’s Intel investment.
The proposal has split Republicans, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warning that borrowing more money to fund the payouts could worsen inflation and add to the national debt.
