French President Macron set for two-day state visit to Nigeria – Sources
French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to embark on a state visit to Nigeria on October 28 and 29, presidency sources have disclosed.
According to TheCable, officials from the French presidency have already begun arriving in Nigeria to “hold discussions with their counterparts here to put finishing touches” ahead of the visit.
The trip is expected to strengthen agreements reached during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to France in November 2024, when both leaders discussed finance, energy transition, solid minerals, trade and investment.
French Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Marc Fonbaustier, had earlier said Macron’s visit would enable both countries to assess their strategic partnership.
“Together, our two presidents will assess the progress of our roadmap and outline the key elements of our relationship for the years to come. These will undoubtedly be ambitious and mutually beneficial for our two peoples,” Fonbaustier said.
Macron last visited Nigeria as president in July 2018, when he met then-President Muhammadu Buhari and visited the New Afrika Shrine in Lagos.
