Ghana eyes electricity exports to Nigeria, seeks West Africa’s power hub status
Ghana is planning to begin exporting electricity to Nigeria as part of its ambition to become a major power supplier across West Africa, according to YEN.com.gh. Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor said Ghana already supplies power to Togo, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, and Burkina Faso, with Nigeria representing a significant new target given its population of over 200 million.
Jinapor noted that reaching Nigeria would require expanding transmission infrastructure. He also outlined Ghana’s long-term energy strategy, combining natural gas, renewables, and nuclear power to support President John Mahama’s 24-Hour Economy initiative through stable electricity supply.
