Ghana vows to pursue justice for teenager shot dead on way to school in New York
Ghana’s government has vowed to pursue justice for 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong, who was shot dead on his way to school in New York.
The Ghanaian Permanent Mission to the United Nations paid a condolence visit to his father, Thomas Frimpong. As The Peoples Gazette earlier reported, the boy was allegedly shot by bullies at Crotona Park, East 171st Street in the Bronx, on Thursday. He did not survive.
In a Friday statement, the mission said a delegation including Deputy Permanent Representative Ben Dotsei Malor visited the family. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa called in during the visit and said President John Mahama had directed the provision of necessary assistance.
He offered “the assurance that no Ghanaian should suffer anywhere in the world without the Ghana Government’s intervention, help, and support,” the mission noted.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry also urged Bronx authorities “to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.” It added: “We stand ready to provide appropriate legal and consular assistance.”
