Governors under fire as FAAC payouts hit N47tn in three years
Nigeria’s 36 state governors face mounting pressure to account for public funds after the Federation Account disbursed about N47tn to the three tiers of government since the removal of petrol subsidy, according to The PUNCH.
Federal Ministry of Finance data shows N93.216tn was shared between 2017 and 2025, with over half distributed in the last three years alone.
Analysts argue the revenue surge hasn’t translated into improved infrastructure, healthcare or reduced hardship for citizens, with some accusing states of prioritising “conspicuous projects” over basic services like schools and water supply.
