Phil Foden admitted he was “gutted” after being sent off during Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Manchester United, having kicked out at Bruno Fernandes in the 23rd minute. Referee Michael Oliver showed a straight red card, leaving Enzo Maresca’s side down to 10 men for over an hour before Erling Haaland’s controversial goal sealed victory.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Foden praised his teammates on Instagram, saying he was “proud to be Blue” despite missing out on the win. He faces a three-match ban, ruling him out until City’s October 11 trip to Liverpool. Roy Keane defended Foden, arguing Fernandes escaped punishment for his own foul.
