Haaland overtakes Rooney and Aguero as Man City down United in derby
Erling Haaland became the outright top scorer in Manchester derby history, netting his ninth goal in the fixture to surpass Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero, as 10-man Manchester City beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. Phil Foden’s early red card left Enzo Maresca’s side to battle a man down for most of the game, but a controversial VAR review overturned an offside call to award Haaland’s decisive strike.
According to Goal.com, the Premier League Match Centre said Enzo Fernandez did not interfere with play, though officials later admitted to United the goal should have stood disallowed. The win extends City’s perfect start to a Premier League-record four opening wins for a seventh time.
