Why Liverpool won’t rush to sell struggling £116m star Wirtz

Liverpool will not be “quick to sell” Florian Wirtz despite the German’s underwhelming start in English football, former Reds winger Jermaine Pennant has told GOAL. The 23-year-old managed seven goals and seven assists last season, well below his Bayer Leverkusen numbers, and has drawn no contributions this term as Liverpool were held 0-0 by Fulham.

According to GOAL.com, Pennant said Wirtz deserves time to adapt to a new league and manager, insisting the club would not offload him lightly given his fee and quality. However, fellow ex-Red Dietmar Hamann was less convinced, warning Wirtz must start influencing games soon or face mounting scrutiny.
