Hamzat bowed out of 2018 governorship race for me — Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has praised his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, for stepping aside in the 2018 governorship race so that he could become the All Progressives Congress candidate, Vanguard reports.
In a post on X on Friday, Sanwo-Olu wrote: “It takes a rare man to put down what he wants without nursing a grudge. Femi shook my hand and five weeks later, agreed to run beside me. I have never forgotten that.”
He said he had never doubted Hamzat’s loyalty in their 2,711 days together. He also credited his deputy with key roles in the COVID-19 response, the Blue and Red rail lines and the Lekki Deep Sea Port.
His remarks came as Hamzat unveiled his manifesto, The Lagos PROMISE, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Urging residents to support Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu said: “Lagos does not hand the baton to a man standing still. Today, you have seen the man who is already running.”
